Land Grant Brewing in Columbus, Ohio is celebrating its 9th Anniversary on Saturday, September 2nd at the brewery’s taproom and beer garden in Franklinton, just west of downtown. The celebration includes special beer tastings, live music, and an Ohio State football game watch in the afternoon.
Land Grant was founded in 2014 as Oval Brewing, a tribute to founder Adam Benner’s alma mater Ohio State, and the brewery continues to evolve. In 2019, Land Grant leased space next to the taproom and created a dog-friendly beer garden that has covered picnic tables, a cantina, a performance stage with a big screen, and a leisure area with cabanas and cornhole in the summer and igloos and keg curling in the winter.
Ohio State football opens the season in Bloomington and faces the Indiana Hoosiers. Kickoff is at 3:30pm and the game will be televised on the big screen in the Land Grant beer garden. The Columbus Crew also plays on the road Saturday, taking on Montreal which is Coach Nancy’s former squad. Kickoff is at 7:30pm and fans can watch the match in Land Grant’s leisure area.
After the Ohio State game, patrons can stay in the beer garden for live music by the bands Magnolia (original music) and Sgt. Peppercorn (a Beatles tribute set). At 10:00pm there’s a hip-hop dance party in the beer garden hosted by cutting-edge emcee J Rawls & DJ O’Sharpp.
Beer is the main thing to celebrate at Land Grant’s anniversary party. Land Grant typically has 15-20 beers on tap at any given time, all of them thoughtfully crafted. The brewers also created five small batch brews exclusively for the anniversary party as part of a tasting package.
Land Grant can execute these types of events thanks to the help of volunteers like me who get to enjoy the community environment while earning beer tickets. Cheers!
