Lake County Captains to Celebrate Cleveland Sports History Tonight

On Saturday night the Lake County Captains will celebrate Cleveland Sports History Night. Saturday Night’s Captains game has been announced as a Sell-Out. Along with appearances by historic Cleveland players and coaches, the Captains are also having Francisco Lindor Bobblehead night.

On Saturday the Captains will be bringing in the following players:

Former Indians players Len Barker and Ellis Burks.

Former Browns players Greg Pruitt and Mike Pruitt.

Former Cavaliers Campy Russell and Jim Chones.

John Carroll University Head Coach Mike Moran.

and Cleveland State University Head Coach Dennis Felton.

Len Barker was the first Indians pitcher since 1908 to throw a perfect game for the Cleveland Indians. Barker is currently a head coach at Notre Dame College of Ohio.

Ellis Burks was a late addition to the lineup for Cleveland Sports History night. Burks played with the Indians from 2001-2003 and was a DH during that time.

Greg Pruitt played with the Cleveland Browns from 1973-1981 and was drafted in the 2nd round, Pick 30.

Mike Pruitt played with the Browns from 1976-1984. In his first two seasons with the Browns Pruitt was a backup to Greg Pruitt (not related). In 1978 Mike Pruitt became a starter midseason.

Campy Russell played with the Cavs from 1974-1980 and played Small Forward. Russell was a One-Time All Star in the 1979 season. Now Russell is the Director of Alumni Relations for the Cavs Front Office and is the co-host of the Cavaliers Pre-Game and Post-Game show.

Jim Chones played for the Cavs from 1974-1979. Chones standing at 6 ft 11 inches was a Power Forward and Center. Following Chones’ retirement from the NBA, he spent 11 seasons as the television color analyst for the Cleveland Cavaliers and in 2007 returned as the radio postgame analyst. Chones became a full-time member of the radio team in the 2011-2012 season.

Mike Moran is the most successful and longest tenured coach in John Carroll men’s basketball history. As of February 11, 2017, Moran had a record of 459-228. Moran took over as head coach on May 29,1992. JCU has won ten Ohio Athletic Conference regular season Championships, 4 OAC Tournament Championships, and appeared in the NCAA Divison III playoffs on 12 occasions. In September of 2010, Moran was inducted into the John Carroll University Athletic Hall of Fame.

Dennis Felton will be entering his first season as Head Coach for the Cleveland State Vikings. Felton is a former coach of Western Kentucky and Georgia. Felton has a head coaching record of 184-145 in 11 seasons. In 2008 Felton was a SEC Tournament Champion while coaching the Georgia Bulldogs. Felton has a 5-year contract with the Vikings.

The Cleveland Indians American League Championship Trophy will also be on display.

Payton Vince is either talking about sports or watching sports. He covers sports for Metro Networks and is also a writer for LastWordOnSports.com. He grew up in Brooklyn Heights,Ohio for most of his life then around senior year of high school moved to Cleveland. A fan of the Cleveland Indians, Cavaliers, and a Pittsburgh Steelers, he graduated from Cuyahoga Heights High School (Class of 2014) and also graduated from the Ohio Center for Broadcasting in 2015. He bowled and played baseball in high school, and is a huge fan of independent wrestling and WWE, and can almost always find him at an independent show. Lastly, Payton is a backstage interviewer for Mega Championship Wrestling in Elyria, and is one of the three on ‘That Sports Show’ which airs daily from 2-4pm on AllSportsCleveland.com.
