Holy Name Advances To Quarterfinals, Defeats Westlake 10-0

BROOKLYN, Ohio- The Holy Name Green Wave and the Westlake Demons took the ice for their second-round matchup on Saturday, with the winner to play the winner of Midview/Lakewood.

Holy Name started off with a strong opening frame, as Sam Mosley got the Green Wave on the board first with a goal at the 3:03 mark off of a pass from Spencer Melcher. Holy Name would increase their lead to two after Sebastiano Layne netted a backdoor opportunity at the 9:04 mark. The 2-0 Green Wave lead is where the first frame would end.

The second period is where the Green Wave did a lot of their damage. Mark Lang would open the scoring for Holy Name with a goal at the 3:30 mark. Tyler Guarniere scored at the 12:11 mark to make it 4-0 and from there the Green Wave struck for a flurry of goals. Kevin Habeeb (12:17), Guarniere (13:55), Lang (14:23) and Brennan Dickey (14:59) were all part of a four-minute offensive splurge to take Holy Name into the locker room leading 8-0.

Spencer Melcher started the final frame with a goal at the 3:11 mark to make it a 9-0 Green Wave lead. Melcher would strike again at the 7:55 mark to stretch the Holy Name lead to 10-0. Per OHSAA rules, the game was ended with Holy Name claiming victory 10-0.

“I think we lacked a little bit of effort. That’s been an inconsistency issue of ours. But hopefully it’s gonna become a habit. Gotta start off with a little more energy than what we did.” Holy Name Head Coach Tim Sullivan stated after the game regarding the team’s performance.

Holy Name will play the winner of Midview/Lakewood on Tuesday at 8pm. Sullivan adds this about his team’s next opponent.

“The unknown is scary, so we’ll get a visual on them. But putting players on the ice against them is a little difficult.”
