Cleveland Guardians win series against Houston Astros

Cleveland– The Guardians won their first series against Houston since May 17-19, 2017 with a 5-0 shutout victory on Sunday. This marks the sixth shutout of the season for Cleveland. The Guardians have not lost a series since dropping 2 of 3 to the White Sox May 22-24.

Offense and pitching syncing

The first game of the three-game series ended with the Guardians winning in 14 innings. In this contest the Cleveland scored 10 runs on 14 hits. The bats have continued heating up over the past few weeks. Josh Naylor extended his hit streak to a career-high 11 games. Since May 30, he leads the majors with seven doubles and 16 RBI and ranks 2nd with a .488 batting average. Naylor went 5-for-14 with five RBI in the series against the Astros.

Shane Bieber tied a season-high 9 strikeouts with 7.0 shutout innings, earning his 5th win of the season on Sunday. He retired nine of his first 10 batters faced and didn’t allow a hit until the 4th frame.

Since May 29, Will Brennan has measured up as one of MLB’s most consistent hitters. He’s tied for first among all hitters with MLB batting average leader, Luis Arraez, for most multi-hit games (8) since May 29…among all MLB hitters since May 29. Brennan has tallied a hit in 10 of his last 11 games, raising his season average from .204 to .274 in that span.

Fans turning out to support Guards this series

Progressive Field had a combined attendance of 155,580…the highest attendance in a 6-game stretch of a homestand lasting 6-or-more games since August 3-8, 2018 vs Los Angeles-AL and Minnesota. As school is out and summer is starting, Cleveland fans are coming to the ballpark to watch the squad. Saturday night’s game generated
an attendance of 35,087 fans, the largest crowd at Progressive Field this season. Overall, attendance has been up almost 28% over last season.

The Guardians have an off-day on Monday. Cleveland will head to San Diego to take on the Padres on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 9:40pm EST.
