Eastlake – The Lake County Captains swept the South Bend Cubs in a doubleheader on Sunday Afternoon.
The Captains won the first game 7-6 in nine innings.
The Captains then won the second game, 6-3 in seven innings.
In the first game, which actually began on August 11th, but was not completed until Sunday, the Captains scored first in the bottom of the second.
The Captains took a 2-0 lead when Cooper Ingles drove in Yordes Valdes with a double to right field.
Then Victor Planchart singled to drive in Ingles and the Captains took a 2-0 lead.
After the Cubs took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth, the Captains scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth when Victor Planchart hit a three run home run to make the score 5-3. The Captains then scored two more runs, in the fifth and sixth inning to hold off the Cubs, 7-6.
The Captains were led in the first game by catcher Victor Planchart who was 3-4 with 4 RBI, a double and home run. Also, Jake Fox was 2-4 with a double.

In the second game, which the Captains won 6-3, the Cubs started quickly by taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
The Captains came back with four runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, and one in the sixth to take a 6-2 lead.
The Cubs added a run in the 7th to make the final score 6-3.

In the second game, 8 out of the 9 Captains got a base hit and all nine players got on base safely.
The big hit of the second game was Kahlil Watson’s ninth home run of the season in the fourth inning. Also, top Guardians prospects Jake Fox and Chase DeLauter both had doubles in the second game.
On the five game homestand against the Cubs, the Captains won 4 out 5 games.
The Captains begin a 6 game homestand against the Peoria Chiefs on Tuesday night at 7pm.
