Canton McKinley Wins 28-27 Over Green in an Epic Comeback

Trailing by 20 at halftime, Canton McKinley came back in the second half to defeat Green 28-27. Green got out to an early 14-0 first quarter lead over McKinley.

A 64-yard touchdown pass from Samino Manson to Josh Just gave Green an early 7-0 lead.

Shortly thereafter, Manson found Zach Baglia open for an 85-yard touchdown pass with 7:18 left in the first quarter.

McKinley got on the scoreboard in the second quarter on a two yard touchdown run by top running back and NCAA Division I recruit, Nino Hill, with a little under nine minutes left in the half to make the score 14-7.

However, the last minute of the half saw Green score 13 points.

First, Green scored a touchdown when Jack Logdson found Zach Baglia open for a 14-yard touchdown pass with 26 seconds left in the half to take a 20-7 lead as Green did not convert the extra point.

Then Anthony Fortunato got a pick six as time expired and Green took a 27-7 lead into halftime.

McKinley would score three unanswered touchdowns in the second half to get the 28-27 victory.

McKinley scored their first touchdown of the second half when quarterback Keaton Rhode connected with Xaver Harris to make the score 27-14 with 7:04 left in the third quarter.

McKinley then got within six points of Green when Stephon Thomas scored on a 2-yard touchdown run to make the score 27-21 with 9:05 left in the game.

McKinley completed the comeback with 4:57 left in the fourth quarter when Nino Hill scored on a touchdown run to make the final score 28-27.

Interestingly, this is not the first time in the last decade that McKinley has defeated Green 28-27.  In fact, McKinley also defeated Green by the same score in a 2015 matchup.

With the victory, it is highly likely that Canton McKinley will now take over the top spot in OHSAA Region One (Division I) as St. Edward lost to Massillon, 15-13.

McKinley next has a week six matchup with Hoover, while Green will face Glen Oak.
