BEREA, OHIO
–  Sophomore QB Trevor Bycznski threw for 380 yards and 3 touchdowns and ran for 2 other scores leading the Berea-Midpark Titans to a 49-30 victory over the Lakewood Rangers at George Finnie Stadium Friday evening.

Bycznski was not alone however as Senior RB Tyrese Holland ran for 167 yards on 29 carries and 3 scores and caught 3 passes for 105 yards. The Titans amassed a total of 573 of total yards of offense on the night. QB Austin Mahar, 13-23, 283 yards and 3 touchdowns was impressive in his own right for the Rangers despite the loss.

The Titans drew first blood with 9:57 left in the first quarter when Holland scored the first of his 3 TD’s on the night from 5 yards out and added a one-yard run with 3:17 to go giving the Titans a 14-0 lead after the end of 1st quarter.

The start of the second quarter saw Lakewood relax a bit and aided by a 15 yard horse-collar penalty on 4th-and-5 from their own 45, went on a 6-play 75-yard drive which culminated on a 41-yard touchdown pass from Mahar to WR Joe Byczek cutting the lead to 14-7. After the ensuing Titans drive stalled the Rangers then drove 75 yards in 10 plays capped off with a 4 yard run by RB Quentin Palmer, the extra point failed and quickly the lead was cut to one at 14-13.

But, as was the tone for the entire first half, Berea-Midpark answered with a lengthy drive of their own and scored a late touchdown on a 16 yd run from Holland to take a 21-13 lead into the locker room.

Lakewood took the second half kickoff and moved the ball swiftly downfield but the drive stalled and they settled for a 28 yd field goal from Attila Nagy trimming the lead to 21-16.

But this night belonged to Bycznski, he led the Titans right back with crisp play calling and execution and capped it off with 9-yard pass to WR Angelo Svigelj-Smith, giving the Titans a 27-16 lead. Mahar came right back, however with a 23 yard touchdown pass to Nick Bamin to make the score 27-23.

That is as close as Lakewood could get the rest of the game. The 4th quarter belonged to the Titans and their vaunted offensive attack. WR Woodie Vega also came up big for the Titans with 7 catches for 140 yards and 2 TD’s

Next week the Titans play host to North Ridgeville, and the Lakewood Rangers welcome the Bulldogs of Olmsted Falls to Lakewood Stadium.
