2017 Northeast Ohio Baseball Players to Watch: Division I

In collaboration with Prep Baseball Report Ohio, we’d like to highlight some of Northeast Ohio’s star baseball players.

In this article, we’ll list players to watch in 2017. All of these players were named Preseason All-State Selections for Ohio in Division I.

Division I

First Team Selections

Ethan St. Clair, Avon, OF, Senior

The right-handed hitting outfielder hit .463 with 19 RBI, and six doubles in his junior season (2016). He stole 24 bases and scored 29 runs.

He was named First-Team All-Ohio as a junior.

St. Clair ranks 13th among Ohio outfielders in the class of 2017 and is committed to play college ball at Findlay.

Casey Maniglia, Solon, OF, Junior

Maniglia ranks fourth among all players in the state of Ohio in the class of 2018.

The right-hander is ranked 13th among all outfielders in the nation in the class of 2018.

Maniglia hit .347 with four doubles and 19 RBI, scoring 23 runs in his sophomore season (2016).

Maniglia is the top-ranked outfielder in Ohio’s class of 2018 and is committed to play college ball at North Carolina in 2019.

Cade Pipoly, Medina, OF, Senior

The right-handed hitting outfielder ranks 32nd among all players in Ohio’s class of 2017.

He’s ranked third among all Ohio outfielders in his class. He hit .329 with six doubles, 11 stolen bases and 20 runs scored in his junior season (2016).

Pipoly is committed to play college ball at Southeastern Louisiana.

Xaiver Moore, Amherst Steele, RHP, Senior

The hard-throwing right-hander ranks second among all senior pitchers in the state of Ohio.

He’s ranked fifth among all Ohio players in the class of in 2017.

Moore mixes in sliders, curveballs, splitters and changeups to go with his 92 mph fastball.

He boasted a 1.93 earned run average in 2016, striking out 30 batters, and is committed to play college ball at The Ohio State University.

Connor Adams, St. Ignatius, LHP, Senior

The southpaw ranks tenth among all senior left-handed pitchers in the state of Ohio.

He’s ranked 27th overall among Ohio players in the class of 2017.

As a junior, the 6-foot-3 lefty worked 58.1 innings, struck out 74 batters and owned a 0.94 ERA.

Adams is committed to play college ball at Louisville.

Collin Romel, Olmsted Falls, LHP, Senior

The 6-foot-1 lefty ranks 16th among Ohio’s LHP class of 2017.

As a junior, he worked 56 innings, tossing five complete games and two shutouts. He struck out 64 batters and owned an ERA of 1.00.

Romel is committed to play college ball at Kent State.

Second Team Selections

Dillon Dingler, Massillon Jackson, Catcher, Senior

The right-handed hitter ranks second in the state among all senior catchers.

He’s ranked ninth overall among senior prospects in Ohio and is the 27th-ranked senior catcher in the nation.

He hit .358 with 1 homer, 10 doubles, and 23 RBI, scoring 23 runs and stealing 12 bases.

Dingler is committed to play college ball at The Ohio State University.

Mike Tsironis, Solon, IF, Senior

The right-handed hitter owned a .422 batting average with nine doubles, three triples, and 21 RBI in 2016, scoring 24 runs.

He was voted Second Team All-Ohio as a junior and enters 2017 as one of the team’s leaders, looking to fill the shoes of last year’s team, which graduated 12 seniors and went 25-5 on the season, reaching the State Semifinal.

Brendan Regan, Walsh Jesuit, IF, Senior

The right-handed hitting shortstop ranks fifth among Ohio seniors at his position and 22nd among all Ohio seniors.

Regan hit .409 with three homers, 11 doubles, two triples, 22 RBI and 27 runs scored as a junior (2016).

Regan is committed to play college ball at Michigan State.

Jack Zimmerman, Green, OF, Senior

The 5-foot-9 left-handed hitting outfielder ranks fifth among all senior outfielders in Ohio and 39th overall among Ohio seniors.

Zimmerman hit .375 with seven doubles, two triples, and 13 RBI in his junior season (2016), scoring 13 runs.

Zimmerman is committed to play college ball at Kent State.

Ryan Jacobs, St. Ignatius, OF, Senior

The right-handed hitting outfielder ranks 68th all all Ohio prospects in the class of 2017 and seventh among outfielders.

Jacobs has been starting at Ignatius since he was a sophomore, helping his team reach back-to-back Final Four appearances and is committed to play college ball at Miami, OH.

Mark Harris, Amherst Steele, OF, Senior

The right-handed hitting outfielder slugged nine doubles, two triples and one homer in his junior season (2016). He owned a .422 batting average, driving in 24 runs, and stealing 18 bases.

Harris led Amherst in hitting last season and is one of the best bats on a team that is loaded with pitching, hoping to build off of a Sweet 16 appearance from last year.

Juan Broom, Willoughby South, RHP, Senior

Broom ranks sixth among right-handed pitcher prospects in Ohio’s class of 2017. He ranks 21st overall in the state.

He throws an 88 MPH fastball, mixing in a curveball, slider and changeup.

Broom is committed to play college ball at The Ohio State University.

Quinn Lavelle, St. Edward, LHP, Senior

The 6-foot-3 senior southpaw worked 50 innings his junior season, striking out 40 and owning a 1.13 ERA.

He’s committed to play college ball at Northwestern.

Kyle Nicolas, Massillon Jackson, RHP, Senior

The 6-foot-2 right-hander ranks ninth among senior pitchers in Ohio and 31st among all Ohio prospects in the class of 2017.

He threw two no-hitters and finished with a 3-0 record, 0.56 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 25.1 innings pitched in 2016, helping to lead Jackson to a 29-0 start.

Nicolas is committed to play college ball at Ball State.

Nicholas Binnie, Hoover, 3B, Senior

The right-handed hitting third baseman ranks second among Ohio seniors at his position and 41st overall in the state’s class of 2017.

Binnie is committed to play college ball at Cornell.
