PREVIEW: Cavs continue 5-game homestand against Nets on Tuesday

Added incentive

Brooklyn is among the league’s worst, as Spencer Dinwiddie has transformed from an afterthought of a third-string point guard to a starter. Jarrett Allen was buried deep in the depth chart at the beginning of the campaign, but poor performances from Timofey Mozgov, Jahlil Okafor and Zeller have collectively carved out an opportunity in the starting five.

The Nets are dropping faster than a rollercoaster, and a deadline-acquisition like Cunningham will not right the ship.

The NBA Draft lottery system projects the Cavs to have the seventh overall pick, a spot that would put them in contention for prospects like Oklahoma’s Trae Young, Texas’ Mohammed Bomba, Duke’s Wendell Carter and more. The Wine and Gold has not had a draft pick like this since selecting Andrew Wiggins with the first overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft and Anthony Bennett first overall in the 2013 NBA Draft.

While Altman elected to trade the team’s first-round pick, Thomas and Frye to the Lakers for Nance Jr. and Clarkson, he kept an asset with tremendous value.
