Write Down Euclid: If Cavs Keep Playing Catch Up, It Will Catch Up to Them

The Cavaliers set the franchise record for best start to a season after going 8-1 over their first nine games.

They lost to Milwaukee Saturday night in double overtime, so the start ties LeBron’s best start to a season of his career, as James went 8-1 in the first nine games of the 2011-2012 season with Miami.

As the last episode of Write Down Euclid discussed, much of the success of the Cavaliers has to be due, in part, to the weak schedule they had to open up the season, but nevertheless they won the games.

Over the course of these ten games, though, a disturbing trend is appearing before our eyes… The Cavs rarely play hard for four quarters.

LeBron JamesThat may work against the 76ers, but when the time comes to face real championship contenders, Cleveland won’t be able to get away with it.

Just in the ten game stretch up to this point, the Cavs have trailed at halftime six times, and been down heading into the fourth quarter three times.

It should be noted that of the six games Cleveland trailed at halftime, they lost two, and both losses came against above average teams; the Chicago Bulls and Milwaukee Bucks.

The Cavs are 1-2 in games when they trail after three quarters, their only win of those three coming against the New York Knicks.

To those who say “all that matters is the win,” although in theory that’s true, the residual effects that come from playing catch up are going to matter down the stretch of the season.

It was the general consensus that this season Head Coach David Blatt would have to manage LeBron’s minutes better than the 2014-2015 season.
