Wadsworth Stays Perfect With 47-21 Win Over North Royalton

On Friday, October 5th, the Boys Varsity Football Team traveled to take on the undefeated and #13 ranked Wadsworth Grizzlies. Turnovers and miscues did the Bears in as the Grizzlies cruised to a 47 to 21 victory.

The Bears offense moved the ball on their first four possessions, but interceptions, bad snaps, penalties and a fumble stalled each drive. The Grizzlies ended up scoring first on 7 yard touchdown run to take a 7 to 0 lead in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Grizzlies scored again on a 2 yard touchdown run to take a 13 to 0 lead. The Bears offense finally scored after Cade McArdle recovered a Grizzlies fumble. Joey Marousek was the star of the drive. Marousek caught a 14 yard pass from Joe McVicar, ran the ball for 26 yards and threw a 3 yard touchdown pass to Riley Knurek on fourth and goal. James Osborne made the extra point and the score was 13 to 7 with only 1:58 to go in the first half. Unfortunately, the Grizzlies drove right down the field and scored with 16 seconds left to take a 19 to 7 lead at halftime.

The third quarter was all Grizzlies offense as they scored three times with a pounding running game and an interception returned for a touchdown. The Bears did score in the quarter with a nifty 30 yard touchdown catch by Brad Kmetz from a Marousek scrambling pass. The Grizzlies led 40 to 14 at the end of the third quarter.

The Bears scored again in the fourth quarter. This time it was a 14 yard touchdown pass, catch and run by Carson Mroczka off a short pass from Marousek. The Grizzlies added another score for the final score of 47 to 21.

The Bears offense had no problems moving the ball all game long. Marousek finished the game with 359 yards passing and 3 touchdowns. Kmetz had 6 catches for 120 yards and a touchdown. Knurek had 5 catches for 53 yards and a touchdown. Mroczka had 6 catches for 60 yards and a touchdown. Joe McVicar also had 6 catches for 60 yards. And Killian O’Callahan had 4 catches for 40 yards.

The Boys Varsity Football Team record is now at 2 wins and 5 losses. They will look to get back on the winning track on Friday, October 12th against crosstown rival Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School at 7:00 PM at Serpentini Stadium.

The Bees are looking for their first victory of the season and will come in fighting to try to take the “Golden Show” back from the Bears. Also, come and cheer on our 22 seniors as this is “Senior Night” as well.
