Urbaniak Stands Strong Between The Pipes, As Gilmour Defeats Lake Forest Academy 5-1

GATES MILLS, Ohio- The Gilmour Academy Prep Team had its first game of MPHL action on Friday afternoon. The Lancers were set to face Lake Forest Academy in the first of two games scheduled for the day.

The Lancers started off very physical, as they laid heavy hits on LFA. LFA would respond with more of a fast and furious style, trying to catch Gilmour napping. The battle of styles would ultimately go to the Lancers in the first period, as Lauri Pajari scored at the 15:55 mark of the period to make it 1-0 in favor of the Lancers. Gilmour would take the one-goal lead into the second period.

In the second period, Jake Colosanti would make it a 2-0 Gilmour lead after he scored at the 1:59 mark of the period. Tyler Hamilton would try to get Lake Forest Academy back into the game, as he netted a goal at the 9:51 mark of the period to make it 2-1. It looked as if the third period would be a nail-biter, but Nick Hawkins would extend the Gilmour lead to 3-1 after he chased down a deflected pass and scored with .19 of a second remaining in the period. Head Coach Mike Chiellino spoke about the significance of Hawkins’ late goal: “It was a game changer. Totally changed the momentum and the energy we brought into the third period.”

In the third period, Hawkins and Kyle Warren would add to the lead, as Gilmour would win the game by a score of 5-1. Goaltender Kasper Urbaniak was excellent for all three periods, only allowing one goal in the game. Needless to say, Coach Chiellino was pleased with his netminder: “Kasper was incredible. Totally spot-on positioning, battled and kept the boys in the game early when they were outplaying us for a little bit. So, we’re really happy with him right now. He got the player of the game.”

Gilmour Academy plays Loyola Academy tonight at 8:15pm. Coach Chiellino spoke on the task ahead tonight: “We know they’re a very good team. They’re well-coached. It’s going to be a tough game tonight. We want to play clean and we want to play fast as possible.”
