Track & Field Coach Melissa Wojtala Steps Down At Brunswick

Coach Melissa Wojtala has stepped down as the Head Girls Track & Field Coach at Brunswick High School.  Wojtala served as the head coach at her alma mater for 20 years. Wojtala’s success throughout her tenure was widespread amongst her many teams, but highlighted by State Champions in 2011 (Brianna Neitzel, 400M) and 2018 (Alyssa Wolf, 3200M).

Wojtala also led the Blue Devils to Regional Championships in 2015, 2017, and again this past spring in 2018.  The 2018 team was also Greater Cleveland Conference Champions having finished the season undefeated in all dual and invitational meets.  Wojtala will remain as a social studies teacher and assistant cross country coach at Brunswick High School.

Coach Scott Merrill has spent 17 years (also with his alma mater), 8 as head coach from (2008-2015), before stepping up taking on the role in 2018 before the start of the season (9th year).  Merrill’s influence on Blue Devils track & field was evident again in 2018 as he helped guide the boys 4x100m relay team the state meet as well as So. Angelina Lotarski in the pole vault.

The search for a replacement is currently under way.
