Ranking the Browns Needs by Position

Browns offensive line

3. Inside Linebacker

Craig Robertson and Tank Carder are set to hit free agency. A good inside linebacker can also help the Browns terrible run defense. There are two possible players that fit well here. They can get an extremely athletic guy to fill the inside and can blow up offensive lineman and run around to make the plays needed. They can also go after a high IQ guy who is quick to react and find the holes before the running backs can get there. Christian Kirksey is good in coverage and while Karlos Dansby had a great year he’s still 34 years old. He will need a replacement soon and the Browns need an improved run stopper and depth. Upgrading here will be the biggest need on defense.

2. Wide Receiver

Here’s the obvious one that everyone has complained about. There have been so many good wide receivers drafted in the last couple seasons but we are one of the teams that only drafted one receiver and he didn’t even make the practice squad let alone the team. Having Josh Gordon back for next year is a big bolster to the receivers but he has not proven reliable and the Browns still need a number two receiver to go with him. Resigning Travis Benjamin is another start but the team has a long way to go. If they go after a franchise QB he needs to be surrounded by players who will help him out especially early on in his career. The Browns only got eight receiving touchdowns from wide receivers this year as a team. Fifteen individual receivers had more touchdowns than that this season.

1. Right Tackle

The Browns biggest need of right now is a RT. The Browns have nobody to put there with Schwartz being a free agent. Erving will move to center and RT becomes the big need. The team allowed 53 sacks this year, only one behind Tennessee for most in the NFL. The run game also never took off like it was supposed to. One of the keys of the offense taking the next step is to bring in a RT that can pass protect and open up holes in the run game. Pasztor did well at the end of the season and if they resign him should compete with Greco for the starting spot at RG. Once again you have to protect your franchise QB and this is the best step they can make to do that.
