OHSAA state Wrestling Championship

COLUMBUS, OHIO – On the final night of the 2017 State Finals. Wrestling season has come to a close and we have some champions I’d like to point.

First up, Division I. Freshman Julian Tagg (106 lbs.) of Brecksville-Broadview Heights. Tagg seek and claimed his first state title in his high school career. An impressive victory over Zach Shupp. A Junior from Fairfield. Tagg won his match 5-1. In his road to glory, he had one tech. fall, and a pin that got him to the Semi-Finals.

Next up, Junior Matt Fields (126 lbs.) of Cuyahoga Falls Walsh Jesuit. Matt allowed a total of eight points the who tournament. Matt won his finals match 4-0 over Jamien Hood. A Senior from Mason.

To wrap up Division I, Senior Nick Kiussis (160 lbs.) from Brunswick. Nick won his match 10-3 over Brendan Price. A Senior from Elyria. Nick was on cruise control from beginning to end. Allowing only seven points.

We now jump over to Division II. Where we will acknowledge two St. Paris Graham Local wrestlers. First up, Junior Mitch Moore (132 lbs.). Mitch is now a 3-time state champion. As I said earlier today, Mitch took on Ben Pusiuk. Senior from Carollton. Why it was a very tough match between the two, Mitch came out on top 2-0.

Next up, Junior Rocky Jordan (152 lbs.) from St. Paris Graham Local. For Rocky, he won his match against Sid Ohl. A Senior from Ashland. Rocky Claimed his second state title as he won 8-0. A decisive win to say the least.

To wrap it up, We go to Division III. Where we now have a 4-time state champion heading to Ohio State University next year. His name is Kaleb Romero (170 lbs.) from Mechanicsburg. Kaleb won his final high school match in style. Pinning his opponent in the first period. He faced Brett Vonderwell. A senior from Delphons St. John’s. Kaleb receive a stand ovation. Or as Austin Carr Color Commentator for the Cleveland Cavaliers would say a “Stand O”! Kaleb saluted the crowd with spelling O-H to the mostly a Buckeye faithful. Get ready Buckeye Nation, we’ve got a potential amazing wrestler coming our way again.

Team winners:

Division I: Lakewood St. Edwards with 151.0 points

Division II: St. Paris Graham Local with 232.5 points

DivisIon III: Mechanicsburg with 118.5 points
