Tiger’s senior pitcher Matt McGeorge turned in a dominant, all-around performance in his team’s 2-0 win over the rival Bulldogs Tuesday in Massillon. The senior star turned in a six inning, five strikeout scoreless performance and was responsible for both of the team’s runs in the contest. Despite picking up the loss, McKinley junior Savian Wilkins turned in an impressive performance himself, finishing with five strikeouts and picking up a single of his own at the plate.

The Tigers got on the board quickly in the bottom of the first when Brayden Garofalo, pinch running for McGeorge, scored on a Brock Polilli single to put Massillon up 1-0 early. Leading off the third, McGeorge reached base once again, this time via walk. Younger brother Luke McGeorge drove in the run with a single three batters later, and the Tigers took a 2-0 lead into the fourth.
Matt McGeorge continued to cruise on the mound, though McKinley would threaten in the sixth. Coming into the game as a pinch hitter, Sebastian Wilkins led off the inning with a single. Two batters later, Nik Hilton hit a single of his own, giving the Bulldogs two on with one out. Unfortunately for McKinley, McGeorge was able to force two fly outs to end the threat and Massillon held on for the 2-0 win.

The win moves the Tigers to 5-2 on the campaign and the loss drops the Bulldogs to 4-5. Both teams will square off again Wednesday evening at Thurman Munson Memorial Stadium in Canton. First pitch is scheduled for 5 pm.
Key to the Game
Matt McGeorge truly did it all for the Tigers Tuesday evening. The junior pitcher tuned in a complete game, five strikeout performance and went 2-2 at the plate, responsible for both Massillon runs. Sophomores Brock Polilli (1-3) and Luke McGeorge (2-3) each collected a RBI in the contest.
