Jordan Johnson Runs for 227 Yards and Donovan Moorehead throws 3 TD Passes to Lead Hawken to 40-21 Victory Over Conneaut

Jordan Johnson ran for 227 yards and two touchdowns and Donvan Moorehead threw for 135 yards and three touchdowns as Hawken defeated Conneaut 40-21 on Thursday night.

Hawken got the scoring started when Moorehead found sophomore Tommy Wright open for a long touchdown pass with under eight minutes to go in the first quarter.  

Conneaut tied up the game at 7-7 with a touchdown of their own before the quarter ended.

Hawken then took a 14-7 lead when Moorehead found Charlie Mallett open for a touchdown with 7:43 left to go in the second quarter.

After Conneaut tied the game at 14-14, Hawken again took the lead, 21-14, as Paxson Laschinger scored on a five yard touchdown run with 3:22 left in the first half.

After halftime, Hawken took a 28-14 lead when Jordan Johnson scored on a 54-yard touchdown run with 6:03 left in the third quarter.

Hawken scored twice in the fourth quarter when Jordan Johnson scored two additional touchdowns.

Also, Conneaut added six points in the fourth quarter to make the final score 40-21.

For the game, Hawken had great defensive play from senior  linebackers Luke Mangini and Paxon Laschinger as well as sophomores Charlie Mallett and Kene Obi.

Mangini had 8 solo tackles and assisted on five more and also had one tackle for a loss.  

Laschinger had 8 solo tackles and assisted on 4 more and also had one tackle for a loss.

In addition to his touchdown catch on offense, Charlie Mallett also had two interceptions and 4 solo tackles on defense. Sophomore Kene Obi had seven solo tackles, one sack and an interception.

With the victory, Hawken moves to 4-1 on the season and will play West Geauga in a week six matchup.  

Conneaut, now 3-2 on the season, will travel to Jefferson Area next Friday night.
