Indians Announce Promotions in Baseball Operations and Scouting Departments

CLEVELAND – The Indians and General Manager Mike Chernoff today announced the following promotions within the club’s Baseball Operations Department.

Named Matt Forman Director of Baseball Operations, named Sky Andrecheck Senior Director of Baseball Research and Development and named Keith Woolner Principal Data Scientist, Baseball Analytics

The 2016 season will be Forman’s fourth with the Indians after joining the club in January 2013, spending last season as the club’s Assistant Director of Baseball Operations.

In his new role, Forman will continue supporting the day-to-day functions and decision-making of the Baseball Operations Department, including rules administration and interpretation, contract negotiations, arbitration, budgets, player evaluation and procurement. He also will collaborate with each Scouting Department (Amateur/Pro/International), Player Development, Performance Services and Analytics to refine strategies and philosophies.

In addition, Forman will assist in the hiring process across Baseball Operations, heading the club’s internship program.

Andrecheck joined the organization in 2010 and was most recently the club’s Senior Analyst. In his new role, Andrecheck will assume responsibility for the club’s analytical systems across Baseball Operations, leading the club’s analysts and data scientists while bringing advanced quantitative and analytical research to the organization.

Andrecheck will continue to serve as a key resource for personnel and strategy decisions throughout Baseball Operations.

Woolner will continue to bring his expertise and passion for the scientific study of baseball, leading cutting-edge research using advanced principles, theories, and concepts from engineering, statistics and data science.

He will strengthen the capacity for handling “big data” – the exponentially-increasing amounts of high-volume, high-dimensional baseball data resulting from new sources such as Statcast. The 2016 season will mark his tenth after joining the organization in 2007.

Additionally, the club also announced the following promotions within Amateur Scouting

Elevated William Hughes to Senior Advisor, Amateur Scouting, promoted Scott Meaney to National Crosschecker, promoted Clint Longnecker to Coordinator, Amateur Scouting, and promoted Mark Allen to Pitching Crosschecker/Short Season Pitching Coach.

Named Jon Heuerman, Jason Smith, Mike Soper and Brad Tyler Regional Supervisors. Promoted Steffan Segui (Central FL) and Mike Kanen (Northeast) to Area Supervisors.
