The Washington Commanders defeated the Cleveland Browns on Friday night, 17-15. The Browns got within two points late in the game, but were not able to convert the two point conversion.

“I like how those guys fought to the end,” said Browns Head Coach Kevin Stefanski. “You know, the weather delay, the conditions on the field, I thought was good for us to get that work in. So anytime they’re keeping score, we want to win these games. So that’s the disappointment. But I thought we saw some really good things, a lot of coachable things, a lot of teachable things.”

The Browns scored first when they got a safety with 2:09 left in the first quarter to take a 2-0 lead.

The Commanders then took a 7-2 lead when former Penn State football alum and second year pro Jahan Dotson caught a 26-yard touchdown pass from Commanders quarterback Sam Howell.

Former Cleveland Browns Quarterback Jacoby Brissett put the Commanders up 14-2 as he ran for a 12-yard touchdown with six minutes remaining in the first half.

Shortly thereafter, the Commanders took a 17-2 lead with 4:11 left in the third quarter when former Virginia Tech football player Joey Slye connected on a 49-yard field goal.

With 37 seconds left in the third quarter, former UCLA and current Browns quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson found David Bell open for a 7-yard touchdown.

After the extra point, the Browns were only down a touchdown and a two point conversion with a quarter left to play.

The Browns made the score 17-15 when former Texas A&M Aggie quarterback Kellen Mond connected with Mike Harley with 1:39 left in the game.

However, the Browns were not able to convert the two point conversion to tie the game.

The Browns will next travel to Philadelphia for joint practices and their third pre-season game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday, August 17th at 7pm.
