Avon Lake takes apart CVCA 8-2

The Shoremen traveled to Kent State University on Saturday to take on GCHSHL Blue North Division rival, Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy. After two tight-checking periods, Avon Lake scored 6 third period goals to break the game open and prevail 8-2.
Freshman Murphy Mohar got Avon Lake on the scoreboard early in the first period with assists going to Hunter Hall and Justin Share. In the second period the Shoremen could only score once on an unassisted goal by defenseman Edgars York, but the flood gates opened in the third period. Freshman Luke Farthing scored the eventual game-winning-goal on a nice pass from sophomore Brian Walasinski.Captain Patrick Graney then scored on the power-play with Connor Koncelik and Tim Lubertozzi collecting the assists. Another under classman joined the scoring when Nick Ospelt tallied from Lubertozzi. Three freshman combined for the next goal when Matt Tomaselli converted in front of the CVCA after some hard work from Brady Starck and Mohar.

Just as the game was winding down, sophomore defenseman Devin Elliott created his own memories. He not only scored the first goal of his high school career (from Walasinski) he scored his second goal just 21 seconds later!

Senior goalie Cam Stepka was steady between the pipes turning aside 18 of 20 shots to earn the victory.

Avon Lake is now 15-5 overall on the season, including 6-0 against divisional competition. They are right back in action Sunday January 7th when they host Twinsburg High School in another divisional contest. The puck drops at 7:35pm at Rocky River’s Hamilton Rink
