How many wins will the Browns finish the season with?

The Cleveland Browns had an encouraging start to the season with a 2-2-1 record in their first five games. This had fans optimistic since they had eclipsed their combined win total from the previous two years. For some, the playoffs were even a though. But since then Browns have struggled mightily.

Cleveland has lost their last four games and fired head coach Hue Jackson and offensive coordinator Todd Haley. If things weren’t bad enough, two key defensive players were added to the IR today in linebacker Christian Kirksey and cornerback E.J. Gaines.

So much for all that playoff chatter. With seven games to go, now the question is how many more wins will the Browns get by seasons end? Las Vegas had Cleveland at 5.5 wins at the beginning of the season but that’s looking like a long shot for them with each passing week. Their remaining schedule includes just three more home games, only two after their long-overdue bye week though and three more intra-division matchups with the Ravens (1) and Bengals (2). Here’s a look at their remaining schedule…

11/11 Home Falcons
11/25 Away Bengals
12/2 Away Texans
12/9 Home Panthers
12/15 Away Broncos
12/23 Home Bengals
12/30 Away Ravens

ESPN doesn’t have them favored in any of their remaining games and their best chance of winning coming against the Bengals on 12/23. Cleveland was given a 42.4% chance of winning that game, while every other remaining game is under 32%.

As I look at the remaining schedule, I’m comfortable awarding just one more win to the Browns the rest of the way in that Nov. 25th meeting with the Bengals. Fresh off the bye week, against a potentially A.J. Green-less Bengals team, it’s fair to predict Cleveland upending their in-state rival. I’ll give them that one and say they finish 3-12-1. It’s progress, right?
