Berkshire High Girls’ Soccer Continues Dream Season

BERKSHIRE, OHIO– By now fans of the Berkshire varsity girls soccer team are well aware of the dream season the team is having as they roll through the Chagrin Valley Conference.  It was only two short years ago that the program couldn’t buy a win, and now with key additions, hard work and tireless coaching, they just keep winning!

Below is a brief recap of their big win from Thursday night against Beachwood, followed by a picture gallery from their big 12-1 victory today against Conneaut that improved their record to an incredible 15-0 for the season.

The Berkshire Badgers continued their perfect season Thursday night with a 6-1 win at conference foe Beachwood. With the win, the Lady Badgers won their first ever outright CVC Championship in the 11 years of the program.

Junior Julia Frank led the Badgers offensively with four goals and an assist. Sophomore Lexi Boyk contributed a goal and assist as well, and freshman Allie Barcikoski contributed a goal. Sophomores Katelyn Zeliznak and Cameron Schaden also each added an assist.

Lexi was being man marked all game, which has been a common theme this season. Luckily for Berkshire, (but not their opponents) the Badgers have many offensive weapons.

“Lexi has taken being man marked as a badge of honor and is having lots of fun with it, she literally turned the game into a cross country meet running all the way around the field goal to goal sideline to sideline, was fun and funny to watch at the same time,” said head coach Ricky Nerone. “But because teams are zeroing in on Lexi that opens up three or four other girls to have big games.”

“We are so much more than one or two players and that’s why we are having the kind of success we are this year, so many girls on this team can step up and hurt you,” Nerone continued. “Julia has been a great sport all season. She unfortunately because of transfer rules had to sit out half the season. But boy is she making up for lost time. She has 10 goals and eight assist in only six matches this season thus far”

As you can tell from the team picture taken after the game with the seven seniors in the front holding hands, this means the world to them. This season is going to be such special memories they will have and be able to share for a lifetime
