Three Takeaways From Hard Knocks Episode One

Christian Kirksey and Carl Nassib have the correct concepts on how to succeed on and off the field.

While players like the now departed Corey Coleman came across looking horrible, guys like Jarvis Landry and Christian Kirksey shined well.  Kirksey was also responsible for an emotional speech as he encouraged those around him to write down “Why they are here”, playing football and post it in a spot they can see every day.

It is to keep them on the straight and narrow when times get tough.  Much like a lot of us do at our 8-5 job, when it comes to posting pictures of our kids at our desk.  Those smiling faces keep us from walking out in the middle of the day and never coming back.  Kirksey has the correct idea with this approach.

As for Carl Nassib, while his on the field career has been lacking to this point, it is safe to say the young man has a great head on his shoulders off the field.  In a generation where so many NFL players are going bankrupt within years of retiring, Nassib has it all figured it out.  The concept is simple, put money into savings and don’t touch it.  Earth shattering common sense for some, but judging by twitter, maybe not as common sense as I once thought.

In conclusion, it is only one episode and clearly the drama is on the way next week.  For now however, Kirskey, Landry and Taylor have given us a lot to be excited about.  Bring on the Giants and episode two!
