Indians Defeat Athletics, 15-3, To Avoid Sweep Sunday; Three Keys To A Victory

The Cleveland Indians scored enough runs to win three games against the Oakland Athletics on Sunday but only come up with a single victory to avoid the sweep. The Tribe went off for fifteen runs, defeating Oakland by a final score of 15-3.

Let’s take a look at the three takeaways from this one.

1. Clevinger Shines

It wasn’t an outing that will be raved about for years to come, but Mike Clevinger dealed On Sunday afternoon. Clevinger was definitely in a good groove for his six innings of work against Oakland, doing what he had to in order to stifle the offense.

While allowing eight hits and three runs, Clevinger still threw 106 pitches and helped put some stress out of the bullpen. Oh yeah, it’s also his sixth victory of the season.

2. Lindor’s Big Day

It was a strong day for the Indians’ shortstop, Francisco Lindor. Lindor led the way for Cleveland at the dish on Sunday with three hits in four at-bats, while also walking twice. It was much needed for Lindor and the Cleveland offense as a whole.

The leadoff man for the Tribe has been providing the spark needed daily and it feels good to know that guy is also your All-Star shortstop. A long time ago, people wondered if Lindor would ever become a top hitter in the league, just hoping he would come around a little offensively. That’s definitely been the case and more.

3. Back To Division Play

It sucks that the Indians couldn’t get anything going against a very surprising A’s team, one that might make the playoffs this year. It could have been some momentum garnered for the Tribe.

Well, they do play the Royals tomorrow. Back to the lackadaisical AL Central.
