What To Know About Betway Ohio's Upcoming Launch

Betway Sportsbook Ohio is one of several mobile sports betting apps based outside of the US. They along with other sportsbooks will be providing their services to bettors in the Buckeye State on New Year’s Day. What can Ohio sports fans expect from the global sportsbook? Here’s what you should know about Betway Ohio’s upcoming launch.

Where is Betway Legal? AZ, CO, IN, IA, NJ, PA
When was Betway founded? 2006

Strong International Betting Markets

Betway got its start in Malta in 2006 and holds licenses in countries such as the UK, Italy, Germany, and France. Being that Betway is a European-based online sportsbook, Ohio bettors who are international sports fans will want to check out Betway.

In addition to more available international markets, Ohio bettors will also find more niche competitions available on Betway as well. Scrolling through the app, I was able to find markets for Floorball, Gaelic football, handball, and even ski jumping.

The top US online sportsbooks like DraftKings and FanDuel will provide a better overall betting experience but might fall short when it comes to market depth and variety for some avid international fans.

Solid App Performance

The Betway Sportsbook app may not be the most glamorous or stunning mobile sports betting platform you’ll use, but it certainly holds its own.

Navigating the Betway app is easy and intuitive so that even absolute beginners will be able to find their way around. The app also features quick response times when moving between tabs and in and out of games and competitions.

The app is free from clutter and the fonts are easy to read, making scrolling through the app a pleasant experience.

Promos and Bonuses: Room for Improvement

Betway is one of only a few sportsbooks that offer different bonuses in different states. In Arizona, the current Betway promo is a $250 risk-free bet while Colorado users can claim a risk-free bet at double the value.

A red flag for users is the fact the Betway mobile app lacks a dedicated “Promotions” tab. While operators may differ in how prominent the placement of the promotions tab is, you’ll be hard-pressed to find an app that lacks one altogether.

Betway does have a section on its app for ‘Betway Boosts’ which features special lines that have been given increased odds, making them potentially more profitable. These have become an industry standard, however, and doesn’t really separate Betway from the pack.

There will be upwards of 20 online sportsbooks launching on Jan. 1, 2023, and some have already started announcing pre-launch offers in addition to their standard new user bonuses.

DraftKings, for example, is offering $200 in free bets just for signing up. New users will also be able to claim another $50 free bet and a 20% deposit match upon their first deposit.

If Betway wants to establish a meaningful customer base in Ohio, it will have to up the ante when it comes to bonuses and promotions.

The Bottom Line

Betway’s edge is in its international market depth and variety, but that will only attract a small sliver of Ohio bettors. With less attention on major US sports and promotions that are much lower than the industry leaders, we recommend going with sportsbooks like FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, and Caesars.
