Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield isn’t getting as much media attention as he did after his rookie season, but at times when his name comes up it always seems to get a reaction from the national media.
The latest to come up with a take on Mayfield is FS1’s Skip Bayless, who says that the team should have dealt star wide out Odell Beckham Jr. this offseason.
“I still love Baker, I believe in Baker,” Bayless said on his show, Undisputed.
“The reason I fear for Baker this year is because they did not trade Odell. I have nothing personal against Odell, but I don’t think you can win with him. He wants to be a star more than he wants to win.”
So in no uncertain terms, Bayless is saying that the Browns can’t and won’t win with Mayfield throwing to Odell, which seems crazy considering the plays that Beckham has made over the years.
Last season Beckham still had 74 grabs for 1034 yards and four scores. Yes they are career lows for the receiver, but it took some time and with a tough schedule for the team to get on track, and they just never did.
Beckham’s biggest game of 2019 came in week two against the Jets, when he pulled in six catches for 161 yards and a score.
Other than that, and one more 100 plus yard day in week six against the Seahawks, he never really got on track with Mayfield.
Now with a new coach and new system getting set to be implemented for 2020, getting Mayfield and Beckham on the same page will be a huge focus on summer training camp.
Here’s Bayless’ comments on Mayfield as well as his relationship with Beckham and why he thinks the Browns should deal the receiver.
