Avon Lake Football Coach Dave Dlugosz Retires

Tim Alcorn of WEOL 930 AM first broke the news that Avon Lake football coach Dave Dlugosz retired on Tuesday, on the heels of an 8-4 season, which included a playoff win over neighboring rival Avon in dramatic fashion.

Dlugosz became head coach of the Shoremen in 1992, and compiled a 214-62 career record over 24 seasons.

Dlugosz was at the helm to lead Avon Lake to 18 Southwestern Conference titles, 16 playoff appearances, going 21-15 in the postseason,  and a Division II state championship in 2003 when the Shoremen completed a 15-0 season.

This marks the second time Dlugosz has stepped down from the head coaching position at Avon Lake, as he resigned following the 2011 season, but returned in 2014.

The coach called his team at 3 pm on Tuesday, Dec. 20 to announce his decision.
