North Ridgeville Rangers vs Berea-Midpark Titans

The North Ridgeville Rangers travelled to Jack Finnie Stadium to take on the Berea- Midpark Titans in a week 3 Southwestern Conference matchup. Both teams came into the matchup with a 1-1 record, and 1-0 in the southwestern conference. These teams came to play in a thrilling and hard hitting contest.

The action started early in the first quarter when the Rangers took their first drive in for a score on a 6 yd touchdown run by junior running back Shomari Williams , making the score 7-0. A Berea-Midpark fumble on the ensuing drive gave the rangers great field position; however North Ridgeville turned the ball over on the very next play. Berea’s defense also added an interception by sophomore linebacker Anthony miller, and a 4th down stop in the red zone kept the score 7-0 in favor of the visiting Rangers.

The second quarter began with a short punt by North Ridgeville; Berea took the ball on a 36 yd touchdown drive capped off by an 8 yd touchdown run by senior running back Kameron McCoy, evening the score at 7-7 early in the second quarter. North Ridgeville responded with an 82 yd drive including, a 13 yd Td run from Williams , his second of the night, gave the Rangers a 14-7 lead. The Titans tied the score on a Tyrese Holland 22yd touchdown run late in the 2nd quarter. North Ridgeville used a 39 yd field goal from Eri Davila to end the half with a 17-14 lead.

The Third quarter saw the Titans score on their first drive with a 10 yard TD Pass from Sophomore QB Trevor Bycznski to WR Luis Vega to take 20-17 lead. A bit of gamesmanship on the part of Berea Midpark saw they execute a surprise on-side kick giving the Titans the ball on the 50 yd line, however the Ranger’s Defense was able to stop the Titans and force a turnover on downs. The Titan defense again forced another Ranger fumble, and the Titan offense was able to capitalize on the turnover with 4 yd. TD pass from Bycznski to Vega , a successful two point conversion made the score 28 -17 late in the 3rd quarter. North Ridgeville was able to close the gap with a 35 yd. TD pass from senior QB Collin Sullinger to senior WR Byron Shuey, making the score 28-25. Berea responded on the very next drive with a 73 yd. TD pass from QB Trevor Bycznski to WR Reid Perry, and the Titans ended the third quarter with a 35-25 lead.

North Ridgeville’s first drive of the fourth quarter was capped off by a 11 yd TD pass from Sullinger to Sophomore TE Forrest Croxton, making the score 35-32 early in the 4th qtr. The Titans responded with a 41 yd TD pass from QB Trevor Bycznski to Kameron McCoy, and the Titans led 42-32 with 5:45 left in the game. Shomari Williams reached the end zone for the third time on the night, on a 1 yd. TD run. The Titans only led 42-39. A failed on-side kick by the Rangers allowed the Titans to run the clock out for the 42-39 victory.

Berea Midpark QB Trevor Bycznski finished 16-28 for 246 yds and 3 TD, RB Tyrese Holland finished with 192 yds on 31 carries; 1 TD, WR Luis Vega and RB Kameron McCoy finished with two TDs on the evening. Berea Midpark improves to 2-1 and 2-0 in the SWC
North Ridgeville QB Collin Sullinger was 15-26, 251yds and 2 TDS, RB Shomari Williams had 137 rushing yds and 3 TDs, WR Byron Shuey had 6 receptions for 112 yds and 1 TD, North Ridgeville Falls to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in SWC.

Berea-Midpark Head Coach Jon Hunek on starting 2-0 in conference “Our goal the whole year is to have a great season in conference, and I think we improve every week.”

Berea-Midpark Quarterback Trevor Bycznski talked about the difference between the first and second half “We did what we were coached to do, thankfully the offensive line did what they had to do to help us run”.
