Myles Garrett One of the Few Bright Spots in Browns Debut During 17-14 Defeat

CLEVELAND – Sunday will go down as another long day at First Energy Stadium for the Browns and their fans, as they dropped to 0-5 with a 17-14 loss to the New York Jets.

While there’s so much negative to talk about when it comes to how the team played, one player who finally got to take the field and took advantage of it was first-overall pick DE Myles Garrett.

He started his NFL career off right, shooting in on former Browns now Jets QB Josh McCown for a sack on the Jets opening drive.

“It was just a great call,” Garrett said. “Sending me inside and he jumps set me and I was able to put a move on him and make a play.”

Garrett collected another sack later in the game, and overall ended with two tackles and two sacks, the first player to record multiple sacks in his first game since Colts DL Steve Emtman back in 1992.

Of course like everything else Browns, the day for Garrett didn’t end well, as he left the game with the same ankle injury that stopped him from missing the first four games of 2017.

The rookie, who did give the defense a boost in the time he was able to get in the game, said that he felt the injury isn’t anything major.

“A little bit sore,” Garrett said. “It will die down.”

Coach Hue Jackson said a flat out ‘no’ when asked if Garrett was hurt again, but did state that the first overall pick was on a ‘pitch count’ for his first NFL game.

“I think that was important,” Jackson said. “His energy was outstanding, I know there were a couple plays early he made in the game which were great.”
