Munch Musings – All good in one of my old neighborhoods

All better than good (ok, 99 9/10%) in one of my old neighborhoods.

My mind is racing right now at what topic to start with for this column. High School football playoffs are in full glory, HS Hoops are knocking at the door, the Cleveland Cavaliers reserves, for the most part, defeated a team that in turn beat the Cavs “Ones” two nights earlier, Skipper Vogt brings home more hardware and the #1 Ohio State Buckeyes are handling their business in a big way. I love them all but let’s go with “Love 1A” in the world of sports…baseball!

Big shout out to Skipper Stephen Vogt for copping the AL Manager of the Year for the second year in a row. The team finished 88-74 when most of the so-called experts (how can they be?) had their record reversed. Yup it’s back-to-back just like the teams Central Division crowns. I know the M’s and Blue Jays went further in the post season with the Jays of course going to the World Serious, but c;’mon…the Mariners loaded up big time at the trade deadline to field a monolith type squad and the Jays laid it on the line in the preseason and again at the deadline. Those teams SHOULD have been where they were down the stretch.

Take a second to ponder the Cleveland Guardians. Injuries to the pitching staff, an anemic offense plus the horror of Clase and Ortiz means one thing and one thing should have happened! YES they should have battled with the Twins and White Sox to stay out of the basement in the Central. Two losing streaks and the team still fought its way back to the top. The fans responded. Now is the time to go out and get a BIG STICK who is a Right or Center Fielder that can be counted on. Yeah…now is the time.

I know for a fact that the team is still a little “snake bit” from when they put out a lot of cash for Bell and Zunino, but let’s do this. Whether or not this happens, the tired narrative of the team being cheap makes me laugh and think “go root for the football team in our city!” There are realities in MLB which our Commish, who bent over for the cheating astros, does seem to revel in and I am serious when I say here’s hoping the Dodgers win 2-3 more titles so the payroll discrepancies will truly be manifested as an aberration to the game!

Something else very good in the ‘hood is the Ohio State Football team. I have been asked coast to coast “but who have they played; Texas was obviously not very good at the beginning of the year! Hmmm…weren’t the Longhorns and Nittany Lions ranked ahead of OSU to start the season? The Buckeyes go out and handle their business week after week. I like the Indiana University Hoosiers squad. Mendoza may very well have had a Heisman moment in the game winning drive vs Penn State last weekend but IU plays as though they are screaming “look at us, were good” while OSU gets their job done without clamoring for the spotlight. BTW it truly seems that Julian Sayin has Heisman moments every game along with Jeremiah Smith! Did you smirk when you saw Penn State D Coordinator Knowles on the sidelines at Ohio Stadium? HECK YES I SURE DID!

A quick HS football thought with more to come in the next few days. I am enjoying all the teams in the post season, but I am truly intrigued by D2! M mind is racing around Archbishop Hoban High School Knights, Avon Eagles and Massillon Tigers. Those teams are so strong that each deserves to be the Champs. I truly hope to see you at the Glenville Tarblooders game tomorrow night!

As always take care of yourself and others plus it is your world, PAY ATTENTION! Life is precious, enjoy every sandwich and for now, ADIOS AMIGO, long may you run.
