Monsters Sign RW Derek DeBlois and D Eric Roy to Contracts

CLEVELAND – With a season-long seven game home-stand underway on Friday, the Lake Erie Monsters signed right wing Derek DeBlois and defenseman Eric Roy to AHL standard player contracts, the team announced Tuesday.

A 5’11”, 187 lb. right-handed shooter from Warwick, RI, DeBlois was loaned to the ECHL’s South Carolina Stingrays on Friday following his signing while Roy, a 6’3”, 181 lb. left-handed shooting native of Beauval, SK, inked his deal with Lake Erie on Monday. Both players had previously been playing on professional tryout contracts (PTO’s).

In 30 appearances for the Monsters this season, DeBlois, 24, contributed three goals, five points, 17 penalty minutes and a -2 rating. In 15 ECHL appearances for South Carolina this year, DeBlois notched four goals, nine points, 21 penalty minutes and a +8 rating. Last year, DeBlois scored 21 goals and added 45 points, 42 penalty minutes and a +17 rating in 59 ECHL appearances for South Carolina, along with four AHL appearances for the Worcester Sharks during which DeBlois netted one goal and a +1 rating.

In four NCAA seasons with the University of Michigan from 2010 to 2014, DeBlois supplied 24 goals, 61 points, 98 penalty minutes and a +32 rating in 141 appearances. In his lone USHL campaign with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in 2009-10, DeBlois accumulated 11 goals, 33 points, 48 penalty minutes and a +17 rating.

A 21-year old first-year pro and a fifth-round pick of the Calgary Flames (135th overall) in the 2013 NHL Draft, Roy has one goal, four points and a +6 rating to his credit in ten appearances for the Monsters this season. Prior to his joining the Monsters, Roy notched ten goals, 24 points, 13 penalty minutes and a +3 rating in 34 appearances for the ECHL’s Allen Americans this year. In five major junior seasons with the WHL’s Brandon Wheat Kings from 2010 to 2015, Roy posted 48 goals, 200 points and 213 penalty minutes in 322 games played.
