Inside the Lines: Who to Take and Not Take This Weekend in College and Pro Football Action

NFL:

PHI vs. DET
DET -2.5

This is always hard to choose a team that two weeks ago owned the number one pick to cover the spread as favorites. The good news is their defense has been playing well shutting down a good Packers and Raiders offense. The Eagles have been falling apart recently including giving up five touchdowns to rookie Jameis Winston in a blowout loss last week. With the way they are playing I’d take the Lions.

CAR vs. DAL
CAR +1.5

I just can’t pick against Carolina as much as I think Dallas is capable of winning. Romo is back but her performance was nothing spectacular with two picks and two interceptions. On the other hand Carolina just keeps getting better and better. Without Benjamin, Newton has still led the Panthers to scoring at least 20 points in every game. Some of his receivers are starting to make strides and with a team as hot as them they will go to Dallas and win.

OAK vs. TEN
OAK Even

I went with Oakland in an even game last week and they lost for me. I like them to rebound this week. I thought this team had a chance to be a 0.500 team this year and they still have an opportunity to but must win this one. The Titans still have no run game and Carr looks better than Mariota. This game may not appeal to most people but I think these are two young teams that are getting ready to make an attempt to turn the corner with Oakland being a little further on.

NYG vs. WAS
NYG -2.5

Do you like that? No I don’t. The Redskins looked miserable against Carolina. The Giants are the better of the two teams by a lot because Manning is the better QB. Having Beckham as an option also helps and the Giants could put up points quick. With weak and injured defenses, this game could be a high scorer. I like the Giants in a shootout.

NE vs. DEN
NE -2.5

Beating Brady is a hard task to ask for. Trying to stop Brady is even harder. The Patriots streak of scoring in every quarter starting in the 2nd quarter week one finally ended in the 4th quarter on Monday night. That is among the most absurd streaks I’ve ever heard of. Trying to put a rookie QB who only scored 17 points against Chicago to match that isn’t going to happen. Patriots win easy.
