Cleveland Browns are “all-in” on QB Robert Griffin III; Odds are High for a Week One Start

The Cleveland Browns have a quarterback controversy yet again. Veteran quarterback Josh McCown and once rookie sensation Robert Griffin III will battle it out this training camp for the starting quarterback position.

In a recent interview with Browns reporter Mary Kay Cabot, who appeared on CSN Mid-Atlantic the other day, Cabot said that the Browns are “all-in” on Griffin and he should be the day one starter against the Philadelphia Eagles.

I think the odds are very, very high,” said Cabot. They want him to be the starting quarterback on day one. They’re not going to have a short leash on him at all.

(Browns head coach) Hugh Jackson and (offensive coordinator / QB coach) Pep Hamilton are all in on RG3. They are trying to do everything they possibly can to coax that 2012 type of season out of him again. They see those flashes of greatness, they love the skill set, the mobility, and all those kinds of things. They think they can coach him up into the kind of player who can not only scramble around and get out of the pocket and make crazy things happen like that, but also to stay within the pocket, read the defense, go through the progression. Hugh really believes in himself and what he’s been able to do with quarterbacks since he’s been in the league and he feels that he can be successful with RG3.

Griffin’s 2012 rookie campaign was one for the ages. After tearing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) his career has never been the same. The once explosive and accurate quarterback hopes that the Browns give him the second chance that he has been waiting for.

In 2014, Griffin played in the majority of the games throwing four touchdown passes, throwing 7 interceptions, fumbling 9 times, and getting sacked a whopping 33 times. He hopes that Cleveland gives him another chance to showcase the skills he still has.

The 26 year old quarterback will have a chance to showcase his skills against the Philadelphia Eagles in a week one matchup (if he is named the starter.)
