The 2026 Major League Baseball season has opened with a wave of excitement in Cleveland, thanks to the dazzling play of rookie sensation Chase DeLauter. The Guardians’ outfielder has stormed out of the gates, capturing the attention of fans and analysts alike with a historic start.

Starting off hot

DeLauter, the highly anticipated prospect, wasted no time making an impact. In his first three games, he hit four home runs, powering the Guardians to a 2-1 start. He joins only Kyle Lewis-Seattle (2019) and Trevor Story-Colorado (2016) as the only players to homer in their first three career regular season MLB games. DeLauter also joins Story as the only players to have four homers in their first three big league games.

What truly sets DeLauter apart is his consistency under pressure. He made his major league debut in last year’s postseason. The rookie talked to me after his debut on October 1, 2025. He showed poise and maturity straight out of the gate. When he spoke postgame after his first game in the bigs he talked about soaking in the moment.

Guardians’ skipper Stephen Vogt said this after DeLauter’s postseason appearance, “To see the look in his eye, it was not big eyed, it was not intimidated. It was, ‘100% I’m ready for this challenge.”

DeLauter’s sizzling start

The same look in his eye and the openness for a challenge has rolled right into the 2026 season. Whether facing seasoned pitchers or stepping up in late-inning situations, he has displayed a mature approach well beyond his years.

Guardians’ manager and teammates have lauded DeLauter’s work ethic and positive clubhouse presence, pointing to his preparation and focus as major factors in his early success. The city of Cleveland has rallied behind their new star, whose jersey sales have already spiked. His name is quickly becoming synonymous with hope for a Rookie of the Year nod.

As the season unfolds, all eyes will remain on Chase DeLauter. If his phenomenal start is any indication, the Guardians may have found not just their next franchise cornerstone, but one of the most exciting young talents in baseball today.
