Cleveland- It was a beautiful day for the Cleveland Guardians’ home opener. Many years it’s cold even snowing… yet Friday afternoon temps hovered around 70.

Joey Cantillo was on the bump for the Guards. He finished two outs short of a quality start, striking out 6 batters in 5.1
innings of work. Cantillo retired 8-straight batters prior to the onset of the 6th inning. Cantillo has allowed 2-or-fewer earned runs in 9-straight starts, the longest such streak by a Clevelander since a 13-start run by Corey Kluber from Aug. 18, 2017-April 17, 2018. Friday, his only mark of the day came on an RBI-double from Miguel Amaya in the 3rd inning.

Gabriel Arias gave the Guardians their first lead of the afternoon with a solo home run to right field in the seventh inning. With that blast Arias has now homered in consecutive games for the 3rd time in his career.

Chase DeLauter keeps rolling

Chase DeLauter produced three of Cleveland’s four runs with an RBI-single in the 5th inning and a 2-run homer in the
7th. This signaled his first three career RBI at Progressive Field. DeLauter has hit five home runs thru his first seven career regular season games. This feat ties him for the 2nd-most in MLB history with Mark Quinn (5HR, 1999) and Rece Hinds (5HR, 2024, trailing only Trevor Story (7 HR, 2016), per Sarah Langs.

DeLauter becomes the first player in Cleveland history to homer in four of his first seven career games. The last time a Clevelander hit a homer in their first regular season home game and regular season away game was Joe Charboneau in 1980. DeLauter also became the 8th player in franchise history to record multiple 3-hit performances in his first seven career games. Chase owns a .346 (9-for-26) batting average with 5 home runs, 8 RBI and a 1.293 OPS.

DeLauter’s walk-up song. “Country Roads” is quickly becoming a part of the fans’ involvement as they sing it during his walk-up and when he homered.

With Friday’s win the Guardians sit at 5-3 on the season. They’ll face the Cubs in Game Two of the series Saturday with first pitch set for 7:15.
