1st and Goal: It’s “Time” for Shedeur Sanders!

The time has finally arrived for Shedeur Sanders to get his first career start as a quarterback in the NFL. Last week, Sanders sprang to action in the second half of the Cleveland Browns game against the Baltimore Ravens because fellow Browns rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel was injured.

Sanders has now had a full week of practice as they prepare to play the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday at 4 PM.

There’s a lot of anticipation by Browns fans for Sanders’s first start. Could he be the next Cleveland Browns franchise quarterback? Time will tell, but he has a lot of upside to becoming a very good quarterback in the NFL.

Sanders is a polarizing figure right now, not only for the Browns but in the league, and there will be a lot of eyes on this game to see how he does.

Cleveland’s rookie quarterbacks don’t have a lot of great history in their first official start. The last official rookie quarterback that won a game for the Browns was back in 1995 (If you had Eric Zeier on your bingo card, you’re a winner!)

 So it’s been a minute!

The Raiders are not a very good team this year, like the Browns, so Sanders will have his opportunities. Make sure you have your popcorn ready!

2nd and Goal: Myles Garrett is having a record season

The Browns’ best defender is Myles Garrett, the defensive end who’s been with the team for the last nine seasons. He’s already recorded 15 sacks in the season, including 10 just in the last three weeks.

So, despite the Browns fumbling and bumbling through the season, when you’re watching the game on Sunday, pay attention to Garrett, who is a future NFL Hall of Famer. There aren’t many better defensive ends in the history of the league.

While some Cleveland fans complain about Garrett’s talent being wasted with this organization because the team rarely wins, he’s still here and still playing hard for his team.

3rd and Goal: Bernie Kosar gets a liver transplant

One of the biggest superheroes of Cleveland sports history is former Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar, who recently received a liver transplant. The soon-to-be 62-year-old, who shares a birthday with this sports writer on November 25, has had issues with his liver for quite some time and needed a transplant. He got that this past week, and many fans are happy to see his improvement.

Kosar has been on social media platforms for a long while now, also sharing his struggles with his recent medical history, and fans have been rooting for him.

Having grown up in Youngstown, Ohio, Kosar is loved by the Browns fan base and supports this team through thick and thin.

Hopefully, Kosar continues to improve with his health as time moves on.

4th and Goal: Browns have a history with the Raiders

My initial memory of the Browns and Raiders series is unfortunately “Red Right 88.” If you’re in my age bracket, you know all about that devastating play and moment in Browns history.

It was the 1980 Browns season that ended abruptly when Brian Sipe, the Cleveland quarterback, then threw an interception in the back of the end zone at the conclusion of the AFC divisional playoff game. Cleveland was considered a Super Bowl contender that season, but that wasn’t in the cards, as Browns fans’ hearts were broken again.

Fast forward to the present, and the Browns haven’t beaten the Raiders on the road since 2005. Cleveland hasn’t won a road game since last September, either, so the odds aren’t in the team’s favor. They are 3.5-point underdogs in this one as well.

We’ll all be watching Sanders closely with his first quarterback start, and with that, hopefully, he can bring some magic back to this Browns organization!

Go Browns!
