UFC 201 Preview and Prediction

The Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia will play host to tonight’s big UFC 202 card.

It is the second Pay Per View the UFC has put on in the last 3 weeks, and because of which may not have the star studded lineup the last one did, but it does have a very intriguing main event.

The card is headlined by a UFC Welterweight Championship bout between current champion Robbie Lawler and top contender Tyron Woodley.

Lawler has been on a roll since returning to the UFC in Feb 2013. He has gone 8-1 and has been close to unbeatable.

The only match he lost, was a disputed title bout to Johnny Hendricks that he lost by split decision. He quickly rebounded from that loss to beat Hendricks in the rematch and take his Welterweight title.

The list of names Robbie Lawler has beaten since his return is also impressive, names such as Johny Hendricks, Carlos Condit, Rory MacDonald (twice), Matt Brown, Jake Ellenberger, Josh Koshcheck and Bobby Voelker.

He was once considered the future of UFC, he started his career 7-0 before losing 3 out of 4 in the UFC and leaving in 2004. He was gone for nine years, but has been pretty much untouchable since his return.

His opponent Tyron Woodley has hands of stone and can knockout an opponent in a matter of seconds. He won his first 10 matches in MMA while competing in the Strikeforce organization. He remained hot after Strikeforce was bought out by the UFC as he has gone 5-2 in his stint. It shocked a lot of people when it was Woodley chosen for the title shot and not Stephen Thompson. Woodley will look to silence the critics tonight with a win over the champ.

My pick – Ruthless Robbie Lawler retains the title with a thrilling decision win.
