Tyronn Lue to Have Jersey Retired At Nebraska

Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue will be honored Thursday night, as the University of Nebraska will retire his No. 10 jersey.

Lue talked to the Lincoln Journal Star about the honor:

“It’s just an unbelievable feeling when you get a chance to go back, and people there get a chance to see who you’ve become and who you are as a person,” Lue said by phone from Cleveland on Wednesday.

“And I owe it all to the University of Nebraska. That’s where I became a man, and I’ll always claim it as my school, my college and my alma mater.”

“When I have the opportunity to look back,” Lue said, “I’m just going to be able to say ‘Wow.’ Where I came from, coming from Mexico, going to the University of Nebraska, just how my life has changed.”

“It means a lot,” Lue said. “Anytime you’re honored by the school you went to, where you became a man and everything in your life kind of transpired. … It’s a great honor to have my jersey retired. It just shows the hard work that I put in over those years I was at Nebraska.”

Lue averaged 15.9 points and 4.4 assists over his three-year career at Nebraska between 1995-1998.

As a sophomore, he scored 18.8 points per game. He went on to score 21.2 per game as a junior.

After his junior season, he was selected 23rd overall by the Denver Nuggets in the 1998 NBA Draft.

He ranks in the top ten in school history in career points, assists, steals and field goals made.

Nebraska went 59-40 in those three seasons, and made three postseason appearances, including the 1996 NIT championship and the 1998 NCAA Tournament.

Lue started 96 of 99 games.

Congratulations to Coach Lue!
