OHSAA State Wrestling Tournament Round 2 Recap

Story written by Tim Whelan –

COLUMBUS, OHIO – On a cold sunny day in the heart of Ohio, round two was a very entertaining beginning to the day. With semi-finals, later tonight, wrestling matches on intensifies to near max levels for all coaches and wrestlers.

With some crazy matches happening today, we get started with Division three big winner Kaleb Romero (170 lb), Senior, of Mechanicsburg. Kaleb won his match by tech. fall 21-6. Kaleb is a three-time state champion seeking to become one of the most elite clubs in all of wrestling, a four-time state champion. Kaleb will be wrestling later tonight again Chris Langguth (170 lb), Sophomore from Rootstown.

Another big winner in Division three is returning state champion Ben Sullivan (220 lb), Senior from New Paris National Trail. Ben won his match by a 10-1 victory. Ben is currently seeking his second state title. Ben will be facing Caide Bunfill (220 lb), Senior from Barnesville.

This Semi-final match up should be a good one. Both tough wrestlers from the top. Caide won his last match of 14-2. I’d expect this semi-final match to be a low scoring match up. Why? Both wrestlers have good defense and can score from angles when you think they have a disadvantage.

Division two pretty much went as expected. Both Wrestlers I mentioned in last nights story won. Those wrestlers being Juniors Mitch Moore (132 lb), and Rocky Jordan (152 lb) from St. Paris Graham Local. Mitch Moore got a quick pin against his opponent. Rocky Jordan had steller win by a tech. fall score of 14-0.

Mitch Moore will be wrestling Hunter Yackee, a Junior from Mansfield. Rocky Jordan will be facing Nick Vespucci, a Senior from Crestwood.

For Division one, the big winners are Brendon Fenton (120 lb), Junior of Elyria. Brendon won his match 9-1 in a very tough match against Brunswick’s Logan Heil, Sophomore. Up next for Brendon, Gus Sutton, Sophomore of Austintown-Fitch.
