Munch Musings – All good in one of my old neighborhoods

Certainly after Saturday’s THEE Ohio State Buckeyes win over the Texas Longhorns all was better than good as the ATTACKING NATIONAL CHAMPIONS (not “defending”) came away with a dominating 14-7 win! How can a low scoring game in which the vanquished had the edge in rushing and passing be dominant for the Buckeyes? If you watched the game you know!

Here are some thoughts on what went down…

– The NOON kick off was fantastic. Speaking with OSU stadium vets they relayed that it was the best atmosphere they have ever been a part of in the Shoe! Even those complaining (mostly because they could not drink more!) were appeased with a few “it should have been at night” comments when the proper response is “NOON was perfect!”

– Julian Sayin outplayed “let’s give the Heisman to Archie Manning before the season starts”! I know, I know…he is referred to as “Arch” but harkening back to WW Hayes only one “ARCH” (As in the surname GRIFFIN) played in the bastion of civilization THE OHIO STADIUM.

– Please, I received so many texts during the game about the BUCKEYES “going deep into their playbook and OPENING UP!” That was the worst thing they could have done. It was Sayin’s first game against the #1 team in the country. The way the OFFENSE was played was perfect!

– The big take away…OSU beat the #1 team in the country! Not sure how so-called experts like Paul Finebaum escape the wrath of their bosses with stupid takes. He noted the superiority of the Longhorns roster and that Texas would handle the Buckeyes.

– Huge shout out to DC Matt Patricia. I was not sure about this hire as Matt was a disaster as HC of the Lions. Yes he did a very good job with the Pats in the NFL and his debut with THE Ohio State Buckeyes was marvelous. Manning was confused from the get-go with looks the Buckeyes were tossing at him plus TWO STOPS IN THE RED ZONE made this Scarlet and Gray heart happy!

– The DB’s for the Bucks were very, very good and we are seeing a Line Backers crew to rival OSU’s best with Arvell Reese, Sonny Styles and CJ Hicks. The new D Line was very strong. No doubt this unit will get BETTER as the season grinds on!

– It is noted in football that the game is won in the trenches. Above I noted the prowess of the revamped D Line and now I must talk about the true skilled players on offense…the O LINE. They handled their business, and I must toss out that the unstoppable pass rush of Texas was STOPPED. 0 as in ZERO sacks on the day!

– Sayin made a few mistakes. Note “A FEW”!!

* on Max Klare’s drop that went on the first drive Jeremiah Smith was more open than a toll both on the Freeway and Julian did not look his way. Just a reminder to Max: you are now playing for the Buckeyes and not in a glorified HS Stadium in West Lafayette, Indiana.

* In the last series on 2nd and 10 he passed incomplete to TE Bennett Christian, and he needed to run and use up even more clock. 3:28 was showing and he could have pushed that under 3 minutes.

– The Running game did not dazzle me. Donaldson looks legit but Peoples hit holes slowly and needs to fix that immediately. I was expecting something ELECTRIC out of a RB and it was more of a power failure. CJ Donaldson looks serviceable, and it is imperative for Peoples to run rough shod over the next 2 opponents! Can Bo Jackson be that far behind?

– Was it just me or was the punting so-so? If that is the case this needs to be rectified.

Gotta close up simply saying it was a GREAT start to the ’25 campaign and truly…HOW FIRM THY FRIENDSHIP.
