Massillon- The Tigers head coach, Nate Moore, has been placed on leave without pay. Moore’s suspension comes while there’s an investigation into an alleged hazing incident. On June 26, a handful of players were reportedly involved in an incident that is now under police investigation.
According to the Massillon police report some players were pinning down other teammates or taking an article of their clothing off. This occurred at the indoor practice facility in the high school. The concerning part is that the alleged victim was left naked from the waist down (per the police report) and this was posted on social media. The video was quickly deleted by the player who posted it.
Although Coach Moore was not there during the incident the school still decided to place him on leave until the investigation is complete. The lack of player supervision is the main reason the school placed Moore on leave. The victim did not choose to press any charges.
On social media a majority of the Massillon football community is pouring out support for Coach Moore. From former players to current Tigers’ family many positive things are being said about Moore. However, this is far from over. The school district is holding it’s own investigation and the police may be able to bring their own charges despite the victim declining. The alleged hazing and videoing a minor with partial nudity are both illegal.
Massillon Superintendent Paul Salvino was unable to comment much on the ongoing investigation. The offensive coordinator has filled in for Moore as pre-season workouts continue. Several players have already been disciplined and others are awaiting punishment.
The community is anxious for all the facts to come out through the investigation. Massillon has always supported their football team and are continuing to do so.
