HS Soccer : Titans Shut Out Middies To Remain Unbeaten

The Berea Midpark Titans played host to the Midview Middies on Wednesday night on a cool evening under the lights of Groza Field.

Coming off their biggest offensive match of the season on Saturday, the Titans were looking to continue their varied offensive attack demonstrated this past Saturday. The Titans were also looking to establish their defensive prowess and earn their 4th clean stat sheet of the season.

Early in the match the Titans would have early attack opportunities, but they were denied until the 23′ minute. The Titans would strike first when junior midfielder N. Ruggiero was on the end of a B. Garibotti distribution in front of goal and gave the Titans the early lead against the Middies 1-0.

The Titans would be able to add a second goal before the first 40 minutes  would expire. Junior J. Roberto would lead an attack down the wing and send a quality cross the face of goal. Freshman J. Matese made a brillant run towards the back post and would bury the cross into the back of the net.

Titans would lead at the half 2-0. Looking to continue and regain momentum early in the second half the Titans would waste little time to add their third goal of the night. J. Roberto coming off a great assist in the first half would find the back of the net assisted by outside defender C. Sevastos for the Titans third and final goal of the night in the 42nd minute.

Opportunities would present themselves for the remainder of the second half, but Midview’s defense combined with missed finishing opportunities would leave the Titans with a 3-0 victory.

The Titans remain unbeaten midway through the season at 6-0-2, and improve to 4-0-1 in the SWC with 4 conference games remaining. The Titans welcome neighboring North Royalton into Groza Field on Saturday afternoon. Varsity game time 12:00pm. JV-A will be played at Big Creek Elementary at 10am followed by JV-B at 12:00pm also at Big Creek Elementary
