Last night in Detroit for UFC 218, the MMA crowd saw one of the worst knockouts in recorded history as Francis Ngannou knocked out Alistair Overeem out cold. A moment so scary it left the crowd stunned, and multi time world champion Alistair Overeem laying in the cage motionless.
It was if Ivan Drago hit Apollo Creed all over again as the mood in the arena turned from excitement to down right fear. Being there live, only a couple of feet from the violent hit, I myself quickly feared for the life and overall safety of Alistair Overeem.
Thankfully, after several minutes of laying there motionless, he eventually started to move and sit up. Shockingly, he was able to release this statement via twitter.
No damage and all healthy thankfully.. unfortunately lost today. Props to @francis_ngannou, I got hit with a uppercut from he**, one of his specialities which we new were very dangerous. Some chill time now before back to the drawing-board ??
