By Sean Duffy

Stow, OH – Our week 3 Game of the week had the Solon Comets traveling to take on the Stow-Munroe Falls Bulldogs in a matchup of two undefeated teams.  These two  teams were 2016 playoff teams, both looking to finish their non conference schedule strong.

The first quarter saw both offenses struggling to gain any ground or rhythm. Stow’ s first three offensive possession were plagued by penalties and negative plays. Solon RB Thomas Wilks was the focal point of the comet offense, and also the focal point of the Stow defensive unit.  The first quarter ended 0-0.

The second quarter began with Solon driving to midfield.  However a fumble by Wilks gave Stow the ball with great field position. Stow wasted no time capitalizing, QB Cory Rice hit RB Terrian Wray on a 47 yd pass and on the next play Wray finished the drive with a 1 yd TD run. Stow took a 7-0 lead.  Stow would add a 35 yd field goal by Gavin Costello that made the score 10-0 in favor of the home team at halftime.

Solon got the ball to start the third quarter. Eager to make amends for the first half fumble, RB Thomas Wilks took the ball on the first play from scrimmage 86 yds for the touchdown. Stow led 10-7 early in the 3rd quarter.  Big plays did not stop for Solon in the 3rd quarter as QB Joe Cartellone hit WR Trevon Raphael for a 73 yd TD pass , and just like that Solon took the lead 14-10 to end the 3rd quarter.

Stow was able to answer with a 2yd touchdown run by Rice early in the fourth quarter, Stow now led 17-10. Solon drove to the Stow 18 yd line on the next drive but the Stow defense held tough and forced a failed 4th down conversion by the Comets .  Solon would attempt another 4th down conversion late in the 4th quarter but again the Stow defense held and preserve the victory, Final 17-10.

Solon drops to 2-1 on the season as they begin GCC conference play.  QB Joe Cartellone completed 11 passes on 20 attempts for 134 yds and a touchdown.  RB Thomas Wilks finished with 13 carries for 122 yrs and 1 TD.
