The end of the season is closing in for student athletes in winter sports, with the Baron Cup starting the winter tourney next week for high school hockey in the area.
With that, it’s our week eight edition of the NEOSI Jenny’s Old Fashioned Popcorn HS Player Of The Week award, as we highlight the best of the best this week around the area for the top players in and around Northeast Ohio.
In our week seven edition of voting, it was Medina Bees Sophomore Elizabeth Stuart taking home the award, as we had over 800 votes for the local student athletes.
Today we take a look at a number deserving student athletes, and give you some of the top performances around the area as we want your voice to be heard for our week eight ‘NEOSI Jenny’s Old Fashioned Popcorn HS Player Of The Week’ award.

Parma High Redmen Hockey Goalie Colin Pinson – Pinson has been a huge reason the Redmen have had a big year on the ice, as the goalie in GCHSHL play is 11-1 with a 2.17 goals against average. Parma won the Blue North Division this past week, and get ready for Baron Cup play next week in Brooklyn.
Cleveland Heights Tigers Senior Guard Nigel Martin – The Tigers guard had a team and game high 31 points Tuesday night as the Tigers won a huge home game over Lutheran East 86-74. The win was huge for the Tigers, putting them at 8-6 on the season, 5-2 in Conference play.
Willoughby South Senior Bowler Shaun Holt – This past week Holt led the Rebels with two high games of 224 and 217 giving him the lead for the with a 441 series in a win over Cleveland Heights 2521 to 1612. Holt has been on his game in the lanes this season for the Rebels, this coming off last year when he had a 200 scoring average as a junior.
Vermilion Sailors Senior Basketball Player Reese Miller – The senior helped in a big way for the Sailors as they are now 15-2 as he scored 21 points in a 67-44 non-conference win over Firelands this week. Miller scored seven in the first quarter, and scored seven straight in the second and had 16 points by halftime. He hit seven shots from the field and five free throws in the win.
Amherst Hockey Forward Jacob Fekete – As the Comets season continues to roll with the Baron Cup in sight, Fekete and Jacob Kramer continue to be the biggest 1-2 punch in GCHSHL play. Fekete had two goals in a January 26th win over Avon 7-1, as the Comets moved to 24-2 on the year. Fekete has 25 goals and 25 assists this season. Amherst will enter Baron Cup White play as the #1 seed Monday against Orange.
Elyria junior wrestler Mick Burnett – As the Pioneers prepare for the OHSAA dual team tournament, Burnett continues to be one of the top mat warriors in the area. He is 9-0 with four technical falls, three major decisions and a forfeit during dual team competition the last two seasons. He also was a finalist, first in school history, at the U.S. Marine Corps Cadet Freestyle Nationals in North Dakota last summer.
