By Sean Duffy

GRAFTON, OHIO–  It was an absolutely perfect night in Northeast Ohio to watch our game of the week for Week 8 in the 2017 season.  The 6-1 Olmsted Falls Bulldogs faced off against the 6-1 Midview Middies in a Southwestern Conference showdown.

The Bulldogs got the ball to start and drove down the field 89 yards to get on the scoreboard first and take a 7-0 lead thanks to an 11-yard touchdown run by senior running back Luke Lombardo. The Middies responded on the next drive thanks with a four-yard touchdown run from running back Connor Wolfe, but missed extra point made the score 7-6 in the middle of the first quarter.

Olmsted Falls scored on their next possession, this time on a 78-yard TD pass from quarterback Teddy Grendzynski to wide receiver Braden Galaska, giving them a 13-6 lead. The Bulldogs defense stopped the Middies on fourth down and two plays later, Josh Jaeckin scored on a 56-yard TD run; however, after another missed extra point, the first quarter ended with Olmsted Falls leading 19-7.

After forcing an interception, the Bulldogs opened the second quarter with a 20-yard scoring run by running back Jack Spellacy, and a successful two-point conversion made the score 27-6 early in the second quarter.

Midview was able to get back on the scoreboard midway through the second thanks to a four-yard touchdown plunge by Wolfe. At the half the Bulldogs went into the locker room with a 27-13 halftime lead.

The third quarter opened with Midview scoring on their first two offensive possessions. They got on the board first with an 18-yard pass from QB Seamus Higley to WR Nick Crum. Higley would also score on seven-yard TD Run later in the third, and a successful two-point conversion tied the score at 27. Olmsted Falls was able to score again as the third ended thanks to a big run by Grendzynski, and a five-yard scoring run by Lombardo to end the third with the Bulldogs leading, 34-27.

Olmsted Falls was able to force a Midview punt and then drain six minutes off the game clock on a 57-yard scoring drive that was capped off by a one-yard TD run from Lombardo, his third of the night, and the Bulldogs’ lead swelled to 41-27.  The Olmsted Falls’ defense was able squash any comeback attempt by Midview to secure the 41-27 road victory.

Midview falls to 6-2, 5-2 on the year, but is still very much alive in the playoff picture.  The Middies were led by Wolfe and Higley each having two touchdowns on the night

Olmsted Falls improves to 7-1, 6-1 on the season and were led by player of the game, RB Luke Lombardo, with three touchdowns.
