Ohio State Betting: Buckeyes Among Favorites for 2024 National Championship

Despite a handful of questions surrounding the team heading into the 2023 season, the Ohio State football team is among a short list of betting favorites to win the 2023-2024 college football national championship.

Where exactly do the Buckeyes stand as spring practices wrap up across the country? Let’s take a look at Ohio State’s 2024 national championship odds.

Early Ohio State Buckeyes 2023-2024 National Championship Odds

At the time of this writing, the Buckeyes have the third-shortest odds to win this year’s college football national championship. They are one of just three teams with odds under +1000, joining two SEC teams in the Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide.

Here are the Buckeyes’ national championship odds as of April 12 across the top Ohio online sportsbooks:

Ohio Sportsbook Buckeyes’ CFB Title Odds
DraftKings +750
Caesars +700
FanDuel +700
BetMGM +600

DraftKings Sportsbook Ohio leads the way in terms of where bettors would want to place wagers on the Buckeyes to capture their ninth national championship. Comparing DraftKings to BetMGM, bettors who placed a $100 wager on Ohio State to win the title would be leaving a potential $150 in profit on the table if they went with BetMGM.

The Buckeyes have just two national wins in the last 20 years. Despite having the fifth-most college football playoff appearances, Ohio State has won just one championship during the playoff-era — coming in the inaugural season (2014).

Head coach Ryan Day has his work cut out for him, as the team will be replacing quarterback C.J. Stroud, wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and both starting offensive tackles in Paris Johnson Jr. and Dawand Jones. There is a solid chance all four players could hear their names called on the first night of the 2023 NFL Draft. At worst, Jones will be selected early on Day 2.

Comparing the Buckeyes Odds to Other Teams

As stated above, the Buckeyes are behind Georgia and Alabama in early 2024 national championship odds. But just how far behind are they and how do other prominent Big 10 schools stack up?

Georgia +240
Alabama +500
Michigan +1000
Penn State +2500

The Wolverines are right behind the Buckeyes with the fourth-shortest odds to win this year’s title, and the USC Trojans round out the top five.

After completely dismantling TCU, Georgia is the current betting favorite to win the 2024 national championship. If the Bulldogs were able to pull it off, they would join the Minnesota Golden Gophers as the only teams to ever rattle off three straight college football championships. Minnesota pulled off the impressive feat in the 1934, 1935, and 1936 seasons.

Alabama will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing season and will have to replace key pieces on both sides of the ball.

After Michigan, Penn State is the only Big Ten team with reasonable CFB title odds. At +2500, the Nittany Lions are tied with Tennessee for the ninth-shortest odds.
