30 Days Until Ohio Sports Betting Launch – How To Prepare

30 Days Until Ohio Sports Betting Launch - How To Prepare

After being signed into law by Governor Mike DeWine at the end of December 2021, legalized sports betting in Ohio is just 30 days away.

How should bettors in the Buckeye State prepare as we inch closer and closer to the Ohio sports betting launch? Let’s take a look.

Make a Budget

First and foremost, if you’ve never gambled before, it’s incredibly important to set a betting budget for yourself and strictly adhere to it. For the overwhelming majority of people who wager on sports, this should be viewed as a form of entertainment. The number of people who profit long-term from sports betting is incredibly small.

With the ability to seamlessly add money to your online sportsbook accounts and place wagers with no friction, it’s very easy to lose track of how much you’re actually spending.

Only play with an amount of money you can afford to lose. Imagine the money you deposit is instantly gone.

Set a limit and stick to it.

Claim Your Bonuses

Several Ohio mobile sports betting apps are offering sportsbook bonuses just for signing up prior to the universal launch date on Jan. 1.

The best part is most of these do not require a deposit, meaning you’ll be able to give each of these sportsbooks a trial run of sorts to see which are your favorite before making any financial commitment.

There’s no limit to the number of sportsbooks you can sign up for, and there’s no shortage of options with Ohio sports betting legislation allowing for more than 20 mobile licenses at full maturity.

At the time of this writing, the following Ohio sportsbooks are offering early sign-up promos.

Do Your Homework

This may sound like common sense, but you should have at least basic understanding of sports betting as well as basic knowledge of the sport you’re betting on.

Spend the next few weeks getting acquainted with common wagering terms as well as how to read odds. Watching teams other than the ones you root for is a good idea as well so you can get to know different teams and players.

With the excitement that sports betting is sure to bring to the Buckeye State, it can be easy to get sucked into placing bets on events you’re not entirely familiar with. Sports betting is growing at a rapid pace and you can find content almost everywhere at this point.

Don’t watch a TikTok from some random creator and go running to your sportsbook because they said their bet is the “lock of the century”.

Keep It Simple

It can be easy to get overwhelmed with sports betting, especially if you’re brand new to it. You’re better off sticking with the basics at first until you get comfortable with the entire process.

Moneyline, spread, and point total bets are the easiest to understand and are typically the easiest to find. You won’t have to spend much time at all searching for these bets as they tend to be featured on the home screen of nearly every sports betting app.

After you’ve gotten familiar with your app of choice and are comfortable with betting, then you can branch out to things like parlays, player props, futures bets, and so on.
