Mousasi Knocks Out Hall To Cap Off UFC Belfast

BELFAST, Northern Ireland – Gegard Mousasi avenged his 2015 loss to rival Uriah Hall with a thunderous TKO in just over four minutes into the fight.

It was the headlining fight of UFC Fight Night 99 event at SSE Arena Belfast in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It was only available to those who pay for the monthly service of UFC Fight Pass. Mousasi, who is a former Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion, was a serious 6-1 favorite coming into the fight, and for good reason. He had won three straight coming into the fight over the likes of Thales Lates, Thiago Santos and Vitor Belfort in a dominating effort just one month ago.

His last loss was to Hall, but before that, he began his UFC career by winning 4 of his first 6 fights. He is now 8-3 in the UFC and 41-6-2 in his excellent career. It is clear after this first round destruction of Uriah Hall, that Mousasi is once again at the top of his game, and in the title hunt.

In his UFC career alone, he has knocked off such names as Dan Henderson, Vitor Belfort, Mark Munoz, Thales Letes amongst others. He is for real and very clearly in the title hunt for the 185 pound middleweight championship currently held by Michael Bisping.

But then again, who isn’t? Yoel Romero, Tim Kennedy, Luke Rockhold and Ronaldo Souza all can also stake a claim at the title as well.

Mousasi pressed Hall against the cage early, before taking him down and pounding him into the TKO victory.

The event was the second that the organization hosted in Northern Ireland, with the first being UFC 72 in
June 2007. The card was not without some drama however, as once again, weigh in day provided some interesting plot twists.

At the weigh-ins, Zak Cummings came in at 172.8 lbs, nearly two pounds over the welterweight limit of 171 lbs. As a result, Cummings was fined 20% of his purse, which went to his opponent Alexander Yakovlev and the bout proceeded as scheduled at a catchweight.

A flyweight bout between Ian McCall and Neil Seery was scheduled for the event. However, as Seery was weighing in for the event, it was announced that McCall had to pull out of the fight after becoming ill due the effects of his weight cut and the bout was scrapped.
