Mat Insiders: Cena’s Injury Throws WrestleMania 32 Into a Tailspin

Well at least John Cena was able to film his new TV show , American Grit, in time before getting hurt. With the news of Cena being out because of needed shoulder surgery this impacts the biggest event of the year for WWE. Now that Cena is more than likely out for WrestleMania the creative team has to once again adjust. This is not the first time that creative had to rewrite the show either.

According to Bryan Alvarez from Wrestling Observer Radio:

“Vince had six matches for Mania a year in advance, they all fell apart.”

The reason why Vince McMahon and his creative team has had to adjust the WrestleMania matches is due to multiple superstars getting injured. Plenty of big names or upcoming big names have fallen to injury. Big names and rising stars like; Daniel Bryan, Cesaro, Sami Zayn, Randy Orton, Sting, Tyson Kidd, Seth Rollins, and now of course John Cena.  If you remember how fast John heals from injury there is still potential for him to wrestle at WrestleMania but it will be highly doubtful. If Cena does end up missing the biggest show of the year this would be the first time since 2003.

Let’s preview some matches that John Cena could have taken place in at Mania.

1.) John Cena vs Undertaker
-This match had the potential to be an instant classic. Undertaker is looking a lot better as a wrestler in recent appearances and if he does decide to hang up his boots what better way to end it than having a match with the face of the company. I believe that out of all the rumored match ups for Cena this was the best one because no matter what the result is , he still would look strong. You would have two of the biggest names in WWE go at it once last time which would definitely give the crowd a nostalgic feel. Lastly if John Cena would have had a match with him there is the possibility that he could have won the title between now (if he wasn’t hurt) and WrestleMania. Taker could have gone out with a bang and a championship.

2.) Roman Reigns vs John Cena
-Roman Reigns is groomed to become the new face of the WWE after Cena decides to make his exit or is forced to. Reigns being WWE World Heavyweight champion it would give Cena a purpose to face him in a match. Crowds usually love them or they absolutely hate them. With a victory over Cena, Reigns would look like a credible champion and fans could begin to love him even more because he defeated “Super-Cena” . With a match between these athletes the start of a heel turn could also be in the works for one of the two of them, either leading up to WrestleMania or post WrestleMania. All crowds would love to see a heel Cena or a heel Reigns.

3.) John Cena vs Brock Lesnar
-I know this is questionable because who wants to see Cena suplexed 16 plus times again. Here is my argument for that, Cena did beat Lesnar back in 2012. If WWE decides to not make Lesnar a complete beast this match would have the crowd engaged. The mic work leading up to Mania would be fantastic also. Once again this could match could also be for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Cena could get beaten up all match and still pull out a victory from out of nowhere.

4. John Cena vs Sami Zayn
-This match could have gone the same way that Kevin Owens debut went. Bring him up again and don’t make it a one time thing for Sami Zayn. He already showed once that he can compete with John. Zayn could have said that he could have beaten Cena if he didn’t hurt his shoulder. It would have gone over great with the crowd too, Zayn would be the underdog because Cena is on the main roster and Sami is trying to prove himself. Unfortunately though Cena is out with the same thing that took Zayn out of action for seven months.  If Cena does somehow come back in time for WrestleMania I suggest that these do square off. It gives Zayn a big boast as he arrives full time to the main roster and Cena could use the excuse that he is coming off of injury and that’s why he couldn’t beat Zayn. That’s my wishful thinking.

John Cena is an incredible superstar and an athlete also. Weightlifting is big in his life but that was more than likely the cause of this shoulder injury. The part I can’t stand about this situation is that he was able to get time off to film his new TV show but comes back for only one match and then went down with an injury. If I was WWE or Vince I would be upset with his decision to film this show but you also can’t get mad at him because he never takes time off and nine times out of ten he will show up for everything. In the end it just comes down to bad timing of the injury bug biting one more person but in the end hopefully it opens the door for some talent in NXT to fill the void that this group of stars has left open.
